Thread: Flight Plan Unavailable

    Flight Plan Unavailable

I am trying to figure-out how to get the flight planning function to work on my AF-4500 system. I have been unable to load a flight plan from my GTN-650. It appears that the GTN-650 is communicating to the 4500 and when I looked at the GPS diagnostics everything appears to be working. However, despite loading a flight plan on the GTN-650 when you go to the flight plan in the 4500 it simple says "Flight Plan Unavailable".

I tried entering an internal flight plan, which I was able to do. However, when you hit the Activate nothing happens. Nor does the route appear on the map. I also tried to do a simple Direct To, after selecting a location, nothing happens...no line appears on the map.

I may be missing something really simple but I am stumped.

So, after a bit of investigation and troubleshooting it would appear that the problem is caused by the serial port assignments. If I change serial port 1 to AVTN/ARNAV then the flight planning function works. However, I then lose the pressure altitude on the GTX33 (connected to my GTN650). If I configure port 1 for TRFC/ICARUS I lose the flight planning functions but the pressure altitude to the GTX33 works.

I read elsewhere that you were adding the following capability: "The good news is that we are making a software change to enable the EFIS serial port to receive aviation and transmit ICARUS altitude data."

Is this now available for the 4500? I believe this would solve my problem or is there another way to make this work?

Are you running the latest software from our web site?

    Rob,

Thanks for the reply. I managed to go out to the airfield this afternoon and found that the 4500 with the latest software does have the ATVN/ICARUS port setting. Since we only wired a single RS232 connection between the 4500 and 650 (and I didn't want to pull everything apart to install a second connection) I simply used this setting on Port 1 on the 4500 and configured the corresponding RS232 port on the 650 to mirror this. Everything appears to be working.
