glide slope indicator on the 3400

    Rob,
I was flying with my instructor today doing an ils approach.
On my 4500 i saw the green glideslope indicator above me and as usual intercepted the glide slope. However on the copilot side 3400 the glide slope indicator remained all the way at the bottom until i captured it then it read correctly. What would cause this. I thought the 3400 was slaved and should display what was on the 4500.

Are you sure they were on the NAV radio? You can select a different NAV source on each screen, that is the only explanation that I can think of.

Do you have a picture of it?

    Rob,
i'll have to check on the nav source on the 3400 but it has always been set to the 430w. My instructor pointed it out to me. I saw the green needle and the ILS frequency was in the 430w. When I intercepted the glide slope I saw the 3400 indicator jump up from the bottom and center. Why would it be at the bottom when the 4500 showed it correctly coming down from the top? Sorry no picture.

Do both screens have the same version of software?

When you say "indicator" are you talking about the green VDI needle on the right of the EFIS display?

    Do you have a SL30?

If they were both on the same NAV source this makes no sense.
    If I had to take a guess…
    1. You have a SL30 and it was tuned to the same ILS
    2. You had the 4500 set to the 430W
    3. You had the 3400 set to the SL30
    4. The SL30 picked up the signal at a different time.

    rob,
yes i'm talking about the vdi needle on the right. no i have only a sl40. only source for ils is the 430w for both. vdi on the 3400 was displaying incorrect showing the glideslope below and then suddenly jumped to display on the glideslope. 4500 display was correct. trying to figure out what caused the discrepancy.

Are they both "S" CPU units?

What version of software are you running on each screen?

Are you checking the EFIS CDI and VDI needles on the 430W startup test page (second button press on the 430W power up)?
