    MOA Status and Color Codes

On a recent flight I noticed that MOAs (Military Operations Area) are either yellow or red. Looking through the manual, I can't find anything explaining the color coding. In fact, the words "prohibited", "restricted", and "MOA" do not come up in a search of the manual at all...

What do the color codes mean and where does the information come from to set the color coding?

In some cases MOAs were red that ATC advised were cold.

    Thanks,

    MOAs are Yellow

    Restricted airspace is Red

Where did you see a MOA that was red?

Might have been a restricted area not a MOA. They have restricted areas stacked on top of MOAS out here, they are all over the place outside of DC and it can be difficult correlating the 4500's MFD with the sectional since these SUAs are not labeled on the display. I was assuming that the color codes were being updated via XM somehow to show whether they were hot, incorrect assumption. Might be helpful to add something to the manual explaining this.
