Thread: AOA and Flap Position sensor

Question AOA and Flap Position sensor

Since I'm using a Flap position sensor so I can display the position on the 4500, is there a way to use this position signal for my AOA as well, or do I still have to install the AOA flap sensor?

    Kevin,
I installed the RA ROS flap sensor and it displays on the EFIS as well as provides info for the AOA. You do not need a separate sensor.

Correct, you only need the POS-12 from Ray Allen. It doubles as flap position and the AOA flap switch

Great, I do have the POS-12 so I'll use it for both.

    Thanks,

Any issues with hooking up the POS-12 in parallel with a VP-200, so that flap position can be sent to both devices?

The VP-200 has its own flap and trim position indicator, which is why we didn't incorporate it into our software as far as receiving that data. You can't parallel wires into the POS-12 as it is a potentiometer and requires a specific voltage to be sent to it (from either unit) and the unit is looking for the variation in voltage on the return line.

Looks like I'll need to install two POS-12s then, since both the AOA and the VP-200 require that data.

According to this thread in the VP forums they advise splicing to send the POS-12 to the EFIS with a VP-200. The VP-X obviously sends the info, but for us with a VP-200 it seems a single POS-12 is fine.

Just to confirm what's being said here. If I have an AOA Sport; do I still need only one POS-12 for both the Sport and the EFIS?

If you have an AOA Sport, you should have a flap switch in place (it doesn't use a POS-12). The EFIS can use the same flap switch since it's just a SPST switch. However, if you want flap position information on your EFIS, you will need the POS-12.
