Advanced 5500: GPS INTEGRITY SVN: GNAV1

    Hey Guys,

I recently purchased a plane with an Advanced 5500 and a Garmin GNS480W. I have a “GPS INTEGRITY SVN:GNAV1” showing on my Advanced EFIS page and “GPS INTEGRITY” on my moving map on the Advanced display. The moving map on the Advanced also shows me at the previous owner’s location (never moves) regardless of my true location. I’m currently working with Jonathon on this problem, but does anyone else have any suggestions or dealt with this before ? Thanks in advance.

Typically, when I see that message, the gps hasn’t synced with enough satellites yet. I’ve had the map show me someplace else until the gps has synced with the appropriate number of satellites.

Thanks for the reply, the problem I’m having is that the message never goes away, ie it never syncs, could be an antenna issue but all connections so far look ok….

I suspect it’s an open circuit or you have a gps issue. I have a newer model Garmin, so I’m not familiar with the 480. I’m assuming that there is a page that shows you what satellites you are synced. Until you sync with the appropriate number of satellites, it won’t output all the data. Take a look at all your diagnostics on the 480. Make sure the gps is working properly first.

Garmin’s gps antennas are active devices. They have been known to go bad. I had one fail after about three years of use. The diagnostics should be able to validate if you have an antenna issue or some other problem.

I finally had a chance to get out to the airport. After doing some more research on the 480, I recalibrated the Resolver in the 480, and that seems to have done the trick. The 5500 seems happy now and as of now is showing my exact location. I have yet to go fly and see if it holds, but so far so good.
