    AF4500 Serial Port 3

I am installing the following things on my panel.
    AF4500
    Digiflight-II Autopilot
    530
    SL40
    327
    Aera portable GPS

My Steinair harness has the AF4500 serial port 1 Tx/Rx connected to the 530 and Digiflight, serial port 2 Tx connected to the 327, and serial port 4 Tx/Rx connected to the ARINC converter (for 530 & Digiflight). I’m wondering if there is anything I should do with serial port 3. Might I connect it to the Aera? If yes, would that be for the purpose of selecting the Aera as the source for the AF4500 CDI and Bearing?

You could use the Aera GPS on Serial #3. It would provide a backup in-case your alternator dies and the GNS-530 goes dark. The AF-4500 and Aera would be operating on battery power still navigating.
