Water and Land Gear Warning for Amphibious Aircraft

I have found nothing in our AF-5500 manual about the gear warning for water or runway landings. The warning has been going off frequently at odd times. We do not know how to turn it off or change settings. Right now it is more of a distraction to safe landings and gear position than a help.

Where can I find out the best information on this feature?

    Hello Harold,
The amphibious landing gear warning system is ultimately fed from a pair of switches installed somewhere in your landing gear. One of these switches will close when the landing gear is fully up, and the other will close when the landing gear is fully down. These switches are then wired to one of the three user configurable inputs on the EFIS main harness.

Pin 17 on the EFIS main harness corresponds with input #1, pin 20 corresponds with input #2, and pin 8 corresponds with input #3.

You can verify which inputs the gear up and gear down switches are physically wired to from the SET--> CAL (hold 2s) --> inputs menu.

Additional configuration options are available in the SET--> CAL (hold 2s) --> Landing Gear menu. From this menu, you can turn the instrument off entirely or just the audio warnings. While it is ultimately your discretion, we would strongly advise against turning this instrument off outright. From the symptoms you are describing, it is highly likely that one or both of the landing gear position switches is either corroded, or is out of adjustment. Instead of changing anything in our EFIS configuration, what we recommend is that you locate each of these switches on your aircraft, inspect them for proper function, and repair or replace as necessary.
