Thread: Initial Vertical Speed

    Initial Vertical Speed

How is the AP supposed to behave when you engage it via CWS? In other words, if you just hold the AP DIS button so that CWS becomes active, what should the AP do?

I would normally expect it to maintain the current heading and vertical speed, or hold altitude in level flight. I'm working with a customer's AP now that only holds vertical speeds above 500 or 600 fpm. If the VS is less than that, it levels off and holds altitude.

I don't recall that being the normal operation. I called TT today and Zack told me that's the normal way it should work. I've been flying with mine for three years and I never noticed it behaving that way, but the customer's works that way every time.

    What is correct?

I'll chime in. If VS is less than ~500 fpm, the AP will go into Alt Hold mode. You have to being climbing or descending at a greater rate to synchronize to it.

Any word on how an EFIS setting for airspeed to climb or descend is coming?

Alan, it is on the list, however we don't have a timeline for that feature.
