Thread: AOA calibration

    AOA calibration

I’ve never been able to get my aoa calibrated to where it is close to being accurate or trusted. Not sure if the button press during calibration is super critical or if the timing of the flying maneuver is to blame. I have the dynon heated pitot/aoa, 5600t, dual adahrs, and the tubing is hooked up correctly. Is there a way to manipulate the aoa page settings after the flying portion of calibration to ‘tweak’ the numbers to achieve accurate interpretations and display on aoa screen? I have also copied numbers from another rv10 flying accurately aoa to no avail in troubleshooting.

You can also take a picture of the setting and we can diagnose what's going on from there.

Interesting, it looks like you only have half calibrated or just haven't calibrated cruse configuration?

Is your AOA donut (green circle) changing with flaps position and appearing only in landing configuration?

The donut comes on with full flaps only, not sure how it would be half calibrated but I’ll try it again and report back with changes, but after this Michigan winter weather settles down.

Interesting, the flap angle sensor should trigger the donut from 1/3 down to full flaps. Is your flap position from Internal EMS, SV-EMS or ACM?

My flap angle sensor is tied to vpx, 5600.

Recalibrated aoa and got satisfactory results. Now question is what parameter controls when the aoa comes on screen during declutter and what triggers when audio warning sounds angle angle push and how to adjust? The aoa doesn’t come on screen solidly but flashes on and off during flap deployment (when in declutter mode) and audible warning stays on after landing.

Declutter segment sets the AOA display to be visible if the angle of attack is greater than the AOA decluttersegment. We have found the ideal setting for declutter is 8. The segments are numbered using the following:
    23 Warning - RED Only
16 Approach - Yellow lined up with the center of the donut
    12 L/D Max - Split Green bar
    6 Bottom Green Bar.

Increasing your Landing Warning Override will cause the screen to quiet the "Angle Angle Push" earlier.

Not understanding how those numbers correspond to display colors, should that number in aoa display match the bar color segment in mode actually flying?
