    AFS 5600 Approach Plate disappeared

I was flying a GPS approach (GTN650) this morning and as I went missed I looked over to reference an altitude and the approach plate was gone. Map -> [Ap Plt] was gray. I didn't try un-suspending the approach on the Garmin, but after some thought my guess is - it would have brought it back. I had already hit "remain suspended" while I was getting vectors. I loaded my destination in the internal flight plan, and then the EFIS knew to provide the plates. It was just a little cumbersome and time consuming during a high task loading phase of flight. It was a practice approach in VFR so no big deal. Any tips for that? It may have been just an anomaly on my system.

    1) is it correct that un-suspending the approach would allow the the EFIS to display the plate, and
    2) is there a fix out there for this? It's not logical.

    Thanks,
    Buster

If the MAP -> AP PLT button is greyed out the current selected navigational item doesn't have a valid plate. You can always pick a giving location by using NRST, -D->, or FPL to select a specific airport then -> INFO -> AP PLT.

Hi Shawn thanks for the reply. I tried this again, and found that it was when I "unsuspended" the missed approach on the Garmin GTN650 that I lost the approach plate. So, apparently, the guidance to the missed approach procedure isn't recognized as a destination that will command the approach plate. This doesn't seem logical. I'm able to work around it and get it back, but its more work than seems necessary during a high task loading phase of flight.

I found a work around for the problem. I just load the procedure into the Garmin, and then make the next flight plan waypoint after the approach the airport identifier for the previous approach. That way, the 5600 never drops the plate after I select "un-suspend" on the Garmin during the missed approach. Could future software updates fix this?

I'll add this as a feature request for the software team.
