Garmin 396/496 capabilities with AFS 5600

    Hi,
    Quick question:

If I install a Garmin 396/496 in my aircraft - and connect it to my AFS on a serial port - I can enter routes in the Garmin unit and use them on my AFS if I understand this correctly. But what about the other way: That I can can select the Garmin as Source on the EFIS and then enter a flightplan there using waypoints etc from the Garmin on my EFIS. Is this possible ?

Most Garmin devices do not have the ability to receive flightplans from external devices. I imaging its something to do with certification but that's just speculation. The only interface that does this is their Connext interface.

OK, but the other way it will work - a route/Flightplan created on the Garmin will be accepted by the AFS-5600 ?

Yes the NMEA RTE and WPL tags are used which are accessed from the units Advanced NMEA Output Setup.

    From the 496 manual:
[QUOTE]ADVANCED NMEA OUTPUT SETUP (GPSMAP 196/296/396/496 UNITS ONLY)
The NMEA data transmission on the GPSMAP 196/296/396/496 units can be customized to keep the output rate at twoseconds. If too many NMEA sentences are selected the unit can take longer than two seconds to update. The default ratesetting of
