Thread: Serial Port Setup

    Serial Port Setup

I have a 5500 and want to upgrade to ADSB-out with a SV-261; but that will
require reconfiguration of my serial ports.

My question is can I configure a serial port to send output to an AF-Pilot,
and take input from the 74112 ADSB-in unit?

My other serial ports would be for the SV-261 transponder, AFS-ARINC adapter,
and GPS-2020. If there is another configuration that would work with these
    units please advise.
    Thx!

I don't see a way to wire an original screen with baseboard < 7 with this particular list. Probably the best would be a standalone GPS feeding the Trutrak AP. Then the EFIS would be:

    Serial 0:AF-AHRS
    Serial 1:SV-ADSB-472
    Serial 2:SV-XPNDR-261
    Serial 3:AF-ARINC
    Serial 4:GPS-2020

A hardware upgrade would free up Serial 0 by changing to the SV-AHRS-200. You could save another by swapping the AF-ARINC for an SV-ARINC after upgrade. And save another with a Wi-Fi ADS-B receiver but that's going to far.

    Thanks Shawn,
Are you saying there is no way to do this without upgrading the screen for the SV network and replacing
my AHRS and ADSB-in? Would my current setup work if the GPS-2020 was wired to the AF-Pilot serial
    input directly?

My other alternative is to replace my Trig TT21 with a Trig TT22 and bypass the EFIS completely. The combination of
SV-2020 + TT22 is not officially supported by Trig or Dynon, but I think it should work as an ADSB out solution.

Do you have a touch screen?

You could use a Stratux ADS-B receiver with WiFi?

Your desired setup only requires freeing one serial port. This would be done with the upgrade to an SV-ADAHRS-200/201. You would then have
    Serial 0: AF-PILOT
Serial 1: SV-ADSB-472 (74113) or SV-ADSB-470 (74112) if you haven't done the trade in program
    Serial 2: SV-XPNDR-261
    Serial 3: AF-ARINC
    Serial 4: GPS-2020

Would my current setup work if the GPS-2020 was wired to the AF-Pilot serial input directly?
The 2020 baud rate isn't acceptable to the AF-PILOT.

Unfortunately this won't work as the EFIS has to be involved with processing the 2020's data into transponder information.

    I don't have a touch screen unit.

I still confused about what is needed to upgrade to the SV-ADAHRS-200/201. It would seem that the
only way to free up a serial port is to add the SVN network interface, right? Do I need to upgrade the
    screen do use that?

I also am not clued in to the SV-ADSB-472 (74113) to SV-ADSB-470 (74112)
trade in program. Costs and benefits?

    Thanks,
    -Dan

Yes, you would upgrade the EFIS to be a touchscreen EFIS. This gives you the SV Network connections needed to install an SV-ADAHRS. This in-turn allows you to remove the AF-AHRS / XBOW from the EFIS that is currently tying up Serial Port 0.
