Thread: More info on the new LED screens?

  1. #11
Yes, at some point we will change the 3400 to an LED screen. We do not currently have a timeline for that.

We have 2 4500's installed and running great. If we were to send them in, can they be either upgraded to the new screen or switched out for a new 4500? What would be the cost to switch?

  3. #13
We will eventually be upgrading to a newer LED screen on the 3400's. However, there is about a 3-4 month lead time on a specific circuit board needed to drive the screen. It probably won't be until late August/early Sept before we have them.

It will be $500 to upgrade an 's' processor AF-3400 to the newer LED display (We cannot upgrade a non-s AF-3400. You'd have to do the full CPU upgrade as well.

It will be $600 to upgrade an AF-3500 to the new display and $600 to upgrade the early AF-4500's to the new display.

For those with an early AF-4500, you probably won't notice a big difference. Your display is already over 1000nit. The new ones have an anti-glare coating, which is probably the greatest advantage.

Are all 4500's LED backlit? Or are the early ones CCFL?

I have an early 4500 and was under the impression that it was LED backlit. If it is then great I'm not worried about the extra brightness, but if it's CCFL, I would like it to be swapped out because I'm operating in pretty good cold and was under the impression that it was LED backlit which was one of the reasons why I stepped up to the 4500.

    Thanks,
    schu

    Hello Schu,

You have LED backlighting. All AF-4500's do. If you have the glossy screen, it is still LED. The new ones are matte due to an anti-reflective coating.

Hi Trevor. What is an 'early' 4500? I got my 4500 in March. Would this unit have the 1200 nit display? Thanks
