    AF-5400 dimensions

On the AF-5000 series product page the link to dimensions for the AF-5400 leads to a drawing of dimensions for the AF-3500. Is that an error, or are the AF-5400 dimensions identical to the AF-3500, or...? I'm considering an upgrade and need to know if the AF-5400 will fit in my space-challenged panel.

Additionally, will the outboard accessories I already have with my 3500s series work with the 5400? Such as the AHRS, ARINC, OAT, AF-GPS, engine sensors and AOA (wing install)?

The AF-5400 is a drop in replacement for the AF-3500 and AF-4500 EFIS. The 9 Pin EFIS Expansion connector becomes a 15 Pin EFIS Expansion connector and a backup power source needs to be added to the system. This can be achieved by a line from the always hot bus via a 5amp fuse to the 15 EFIS Expansion connector.

Hi Shawn, Please clarify. I was told that to upgrade from the 4500 to 5400 I would need a different AFS GPS antenna instead of the Puck, a different ADAHRS instead of the remote compass and an add on back up battery. I may do this so I want be sure that I understood correctly. Thanks, Larry

The AF-3500 systems used an internal Crossbow AHRS and remote magnetometer, Crossbow does not support them any longer and they are too large to fit in the case of the AF-5000 systems. We have an upgrade program where we give you a 30% discount on the new AHRS when you trade in the Crossbow. The AF-5000 uses an external TCW backup battery and we have found that the old Garmin GPS-18 units don't seem to last very long when connected to the higher RS-232 signal voltages of the AF-5000.

I have dual 3400s units and unfortunately, in my vertically-challenged Murphy Rebel panel I can't change to the taller 3500/5400 vertical dimension.

True, that is a short panel. If you have an extra inch of width our Dynon SV-D700 would be the shortest next-gen screen at 7.64" W x 5.51" H x 2.14" D.
