    5600 default heading error

I have just installed my 5600 in my RV7A and started it up. It's default heading is roughly 35 degrees from my whiskey compass. On the other hand I also have a Dynon D6 and its default heading is within a few degrees of my whiskey compass. Both the 5600 and D6 have their magnetometers on the same shelf (slightly seperated) at the top of the fuselage behind the baggage bulkhead. I believe that is as good a position as any on an RV7A.

At first I thought that my sliding canopy might be interfering with the 5600 magnetometer but when I closed the canopy the result was the same.

I have not tried calibrating the 5600 heading yet. Is it possible that calibrating the 5600 heading will correct an error of 35 degrees. My first thought is that I may have some other problem for the default heading to be so far off.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You must do a magnetometer calibration with the canopy closed.
