My engine harness came with a current shunt, I am using vertical power which says not to use an external shunt. I'm assuming I dont really need then to mount the external shunt but would there be any secondary reason to install it?

The shunt current from the EFIS Engine Harness pins 24 & 25 (or a hall effect current sensor on 29, 11, & 30) can be displayed on the engine's electrical bar graph. Where the VPX current information is displayed on the CHECK -> ELECT page.

That's clear now, thanks,
