    TCW Installation on 5400

I am installing the TCW back-up battery for my 5400s (upgrades to my 4500s that included internal back- up batteries). The wiring diagram and instructions show the use of pass-thru power (pins 6,7,8 on the TCW) with a 10amp circuit breaker...is this necessary (in the footnotes it indicates it is optional)?

The existing 4500s are powered off the master bus. So, I thought I could just run power into the TCW on pin 5 off the master bus with a 5amp circuit breaker (for charging the TCW) and take an output from the TCW to pin 6 on the expansion connector of the 5400. Do I need the additional wiring and circuit breaker for the pass-thru?

I think "we" may have to wire up the passthru to get it to work correctly. I am seeing my unit power off when I switch my Avionics master switch off. I would have thought the backup battery would have kicked in and kept it running. I am going to try adding it to see if anything changes.

I made a change to my VP100 where I made the 5400 "pin" to be "Always ON" when the VP100 master switch is on.

Today I did ground and flight test where is now acts the way I think it should and I don't have to use the passthru just like the TCW/AFS install shows.

When I turn on my VP100 the 5400 comes on. Once it boots up and when I turn the VP100 Master OFF the 5400 goes directly into Backup Battery mode.

In flight I turned my avionics master off and every thing goes black except my 5400.

    Ops check good!

I have a similar question. I installed the 6ah TCW backup battery for my 5400, and it seems now to be charging and staying fully charged - but - my question is if I start the 5400 to be running on the backup battery, how can I then turn to 5400 off if/when I desire?
    Thanks,

Use SET -> PWR DWN or wait 5 minutes for the prompt.
