The manual only shows hooking up the AFpilot to the 430/530 devices. There is no direct correlation to 300XL port settings.
After working through the EFIS troubleshooting guide, and updating the AF-AIRINC firmware I was able to see the AIRINC version info on the EFIS but there were some unexpected results.

1) Setting the 300XL COM1 to 'aviation' out I still had to set the EFIS to NMEA@4800 before I could see any GPS data.
2) Forcing the AP to 4800 baud and rebooting it also had to be done to the AP before the GPS data could be seen.

While everything can now see the 300XL, when I engage the FD, the AP displays 'EXT TS VS' instead of 'EFIS GPSV'. Is this correct for the 300XL (non wass) system?
It currently appears that the AIRINC module is only functioning as the AP to EFIS interface. Is there any combination of 300XL setting that will allow it to interact with the EFIS?

You need to have the RS-232 configured as AVIATION and the ARINC connected. The GPS position data should be coming from the ARINC lines.

Call us from the plane so we can check it.

Making sure I have this right. 300XL GPS1 is set to aviation and is being understood by the AP(9600) and EFIS(AVTN/ARNAV) . However what settings should be used for the 300XL's AIRINC?
Inputs selections are : off, course, heading, course and heading ,selected course.
Output selections are: off, w/o gama , Collins PL2 EFIS, King EFS 40/50

I tried a few combinations but when selecting EFIS on the AP I get 'EXT LS VS'.
EFIS does show the AIRINC module with current software version.

*I can't call during business hrs from the plane.

Try the Honeywell EFIS , ADMIN diagnostics ARINC GPS will bring up a screen that will display the Arinc labels from the GPS.

I didn't see a way on the 4500 to display the Arinc labels but changing the King EFS did change the way to EFIS reacted on powerup. What is the input impedance of Arinc inputs? I'd like to make sure the AF-Arinc out to 300XL + AP is not shorted or open (without pulling the control panel).

From the EFIS calibration menu:

1. Admin Settings

22. Diagnostics

This will bring up a test page that will display the ARINC data it is getting on the ARINC GPS input lines.
