View Full Version : call sign numbers displayed with ads-b and 4500s?

I have dual AFS 4500's and Navworx. My traffic displays and weather are both working well and I love it.

A friend of mine back from Oshkosh mentioned that several people with this setup were able to see the call signs of planes when the other plane's location was displayed on their AFS panel (I don't know if the call signs would only show up for other ads-b transmitting planes).

If this is possible, what do I need to adjust in either the ads-b or afs 4500s to enable this feature?

TIA,
Tom Hanaway

As I mentioned on VAF, I had the same question. I know that it functions that way on the 5x00s, but am curious if the feature was also ported to the 4500s. Thanks for posting the question.

We are working on a software update for the AF-4500 that will display them.

That is great.
Thanks Rob.

Any realistic timeframe when these and other enhancements will be available? Thanks

We should have an update in the next 2 weeks, we are waiting for our ADSB box to return from repair.

I patiently waited before posting again

Any update on time frame?

Ken is still working on it, he says he is getting a lot closer. The next release with ADSB will have TFR's, winds, and lightning.

Still hoping for call signs on traffic.

Make sure you have the latest NavWorx software, Release 3.12.5

Rob,

Is this production released code or still in testing? It appears to be a couple versions newer than what you have listed on the 4000 support page.

thanks,

Rob,
I updated my afs 4500's to mv15 and the navworx to 3.12.5
Traffic works fine as before however call signs still not showing up.
Is there an additional setting I need to do?
Is there some limitation as to which traffic will have call sign indicated?
Thanks,
Tom Hanaway

Only aircraft with ADS-B out will have their call signs displayed.

Aaah.
Makes sense.

Will the data tag automatically appear or is there a setting to enable?

Flying today with a friend, who also had a Navworx ADS600-B in his Cozy, I didn't see any N number. I'm going to try again tomorrow when I fly with Geoff.

No joy, Geoff and several others were able to view my N#, but I couldn't see theirs.

A separate issue that I'm having is an intermittment issue with the encoder output. (I know the root cause of this and will fix tonight. not AFS caused) Since the ADS600-B uses the pressure altitude, could this be the reason I'm not able to see the data tag? I guess that may be a question for Bill.

We just retested it and we are displaying N Numbers on an AF-4500 with our ADS-B test data. You should be seeing Geoff's N Number when you are flying near him, he also has a UAT Navworx system.

What version of AF-4500 software are you running?

Is your NAvworx software current?

I am running 8.22 and the current release of Navworx. I did receive the 8.23 update. I'll install and let you know if the tags appear.

It looks like it was only displaying on the EFIS screen wired to the NavWorx, this should fix it.

I'll check it on Saturday. I'm doing some maintenance today.

I didn't have a map up on the screen attached to the Navworx, only on the two remote screens which matches the issue you identified.

I have dual 4500s and using the ADS600-B. I've never been able to get N-numbers to display. I've installed the latest firmware for both the 4500s and the ADS600-B. Is there something else you have to enable to get them to display? I realize that not all traffic will display N-Numbers, but I should at least see them for traffic flying in/out of SeaTac.

Same set up. In the Phoenix area I get a few N numbers but not many. As time has gone by I see more but a very low percentage . The local
training facility has recently added ADSB so we see them now as well. I would say that about 90 of the traffic shown here is W/O N#s. More are showing up though as time goes by. Larry

Make sure you get the latest release from Ken. He has made some tweaks to the ADSB in December.

There isn't anything to configure to get the N#s to display. However, the other aircraft has to have ADSB out for you to see them. My experience in the Midwest is that it's hit or miss. Some days I see a large percentage and on other days, I don't. I can tell you it's nice for meeting up with fellow RV'ers in the air. At least then you know where your ADSB enabled friends are located.
