Can I get a 3D CAD solid model of the Advanced Deck? Not all critical information is on the install drawing and I don't want to wait to get my unit to complete my detailed panel design. Either STEP or IGES format would be ideal.

Hi Noah - can't help with the 3D model, but I took the bezel cutout .dxf file from the AFS website and had that CNC'd into my panel. Worked 100% perfectly. Very impressive.

Thanks. I am trying to locate the 4500 in my RV-7 tipup panel as far left as I possibly can. In this panel, there is a rib running diagonally behind the panel on both sides which reinforces the subpanel. As you move the 4500 left from center, you will reach a point where you can go no further because the back corner of the 4500 will run into this rib. I would need several additional dimensions, which are not on AFS' drawings, to calculate how far left I can locate their unit. I take the silence on this issue to mean that they don't have a solid model. The next best thing would be a more complete drawing with a few more dimensions on it.

Hi Noah,

... to give you an idea of where my 4500 ended up in my 7A tipup. You can count the rivets along the top edge of the panel to give you an idea on location. The unit should be on the center-line of the pilot's seat. I also had to trim the panel's upper reinforcement just a tad in order to raise the unit up just a bit.

What did you use for your panel design? Looks good.

Thanks For posting this Nelson. In my case, I am planning two 4500s next to each other so I need to have the left box as far left as it will go. That rivet gives me an idea of where the left edge of your bezel falls. Any way you might be able to tell me the lateral distance from the back left corner of the box to the subpanel support rib? Like in this picture? That would tell me how far I can go before I will hit this rib.

Hi Darwin,

Thank you for the compliment. I used TurboCAD and either imported images from manufactures and scaled them to the proper size or drew up simple representations. When I had something I thought was workable, I printed out a full sized copy, a dozen or so 8.5 x 11 pages, and then stitched them together with Scoth tape to make a full-size representation. Took that and taped onto the real panel and I then made "airplane noises". It didn't long to realise that I needed to move some items around. I also got a lot of great feedback from VAF and from studying panels from the likes of Paul Dye and Stein. It was a great learning experience.

Hi Noah,

Dual 4500's next to each other. Now I "see". ;) I'm having a heck of a time getting the link you posted to work. I tried searching under your name, 4500, rv-7a, and rv-7 with no luck. If you think it'd be helpful, I'd be happy to take and post various close-ups with a ruler the background.

Hi Noah,

That worked.

Try this. FYI, it's a pretty good sized photo for you modem users....

Wow, thanks Nelson, that is some service! OK, so you can move your 4500 3.25" left of its present position. At that point you will hit the longeron-like support rib for the subpanel.

I owe you one!
