View Full Version : Winds Aloft Indicator Vanishing

Today I was flying my 4500 in extremely strong (50+kts) cross winds aloft.
I noticed the flight path indicator turning red, presumably from reaching
the maximum deflection. I also noticed that the wind indicator disappeared
intermittently for several minutes at a time. This included the wind arrow and
the numeric strength and direction values. The vanishing wind arrow did
not seem correlated to the red flight path indicator, but I wonder if it had
something to do with the strong X-wind. I know that loss of GPS data will
cause the wind indicator to vanish, but there was no indication of anything
wrong with the GPS data. Any idea of the cause and fix?

I've noticed the winds disappearing on my 4500 as well displaying just dashes yet they still displayed on my copilot side 3400. I think there is some glitch in the 4500 .

Hello Alan, I heard about this from another customer so it may be a bug. I've forwarded this to our software team. Thanks!

This problem also occurs on my 4500 but only when the winds are 90 deg. I believe this was covered on another thread and this was Trevor's responce:

"We have changed the way winds works on the AF-4500. We will be further changing it to eliminate the large trigonometry errors between 85-95 degrees. "

On my 4500 I also noticed the winds disappearing. Only a few times for a short moment. Very rarely the AFS Pilot did not follow the course for a moment.
This did not happen on my last flights ( 5 hours) when I had head and tailwind only...
