I am only using the ads gps at this time. How would I enter a flight plan into the EFIS? Also have afs flight director. I assume that this can be done without the need to be driving it with a garmin 430 etc. Thanks for your input.

Hello,
The whole idea behind our internal flight planning feature was to support those customers without a panel mount GPS. It will work very well in your configuration.

Trevor,
Is there a guide on how to use the flight plan feature?

Is there a guide for this feature - I have not been able to figure this one out? Probably looking right at it:)

Not quite yet. We are working on releasing a supplement after Oshkosh. I apologize for the delay.

Is there any way to save a flt plan for recall? Currently, any entered flt plan is lost when you power off.

We do not have the ability to save a Flight Plan yet

Any update on how to enter flight plans?

It is in the latest manual on our web site.

Indeed it is, on page 32.
However, despite following carefully the instructions on that page, I get "FLIGHT PLAN NOT AVAILABLE". Any suggestions?
I have SW S8.6.8-MV15 aug 18 2011.
Whilst I'm on the subject, as and when I get this working will I be able to enter user defined waypoints?

What type of GPS do you have it connected to?

Are you getting the flight plans from the GPS on the EFIS?

If you do a -D-> from the map menu and press yes for internal navigation you should see a flight plan.

I don't have an external GPS, I'm using AFS. Only the puck is external.
-D- button does work by popping up a screen on which I can enter an a/f code.

Once you enter the airport code is should show it in the flight plan and then let you select the airport runways.

I understand that Rob, but my problem relates to flight plans, not going "Direct to", or are you saying that the only flight plan function is the "Direct to" one?

Rob Hickman

Once you enter a Direct To you have a flight plan and can then add more points.

or you can do this:

press [FLT PLAN]
press [SRCSEL] until the FLIGHT PLAN TITLE changes to FLIGHT PLAN FOR INTFP
[EDIT]
[INSERT]
Enter WP ID
[SAVE]
repeat

We are curently working on making the flight plan entery a lot more user friendly and should have an update in a few weeks for the AF-4500.

I'm looking forward to the update for entering flight plans. Will this also include the ability to save them? In the meantime, I have a question . . . would the 4500s recognize a flight plan initiated/transferred by a Garmin 796?

Yes, it will currently display the flight plan from an external GPS. It will also let you set the runways and altitudes for the external flight plan.

We are currently finishing the flight plans in the AF-5000 series units, you can save, load, and transfer a flight plan from an external PC. Once we finish the flight plans on the AF-5000 we plan on working on the AF-4500 system.

We have not had the software engineering time to update the AF-4500 units, it is still on the list.

And when you can, PLEASE add the ability for the user to set the HITS synthetic glideslope top of descent (not just 1000 agl as it is currently).
THANK YOU!
