Along with the purchase of my AFS 4500 I received the Wxworx bluetooth portable receiver. I also have a Garmin 696. Is there any advantage for me to use the WxWorx, for weather, over the 696? And will the WxWorx unit work on say a AFS 3500?

All of our systems require the Wxworx Ethernet receiver, bluetooth will not work.

Rob, when you say "require" do you mean just for weather or does the unit "have" to have WxWorx? I can see no reason to use WxWorx in lieu of the Garmin 696 for weather. If you can, please let me know.

If you want to display weather on the EFIS you have to have the Ethernet WX module.

The AFS boxes do not have bluetooth, so the only way any device can communicate with them is either by way of serial connection or by ethernet.

If you have multiple (ie more than two) boxes that want to 'talk' ethernet, you'll need an ethernet hub.

Soooo, if you want to connect the WxWorx receiver you either need to use the WxWorx ethernet interface module (easiest) or the WxWorx rs232 interface module (hardest cos there's more cabling to do).

Just my 2c (NZ) worth...if you have the 696 already installed and connected to your AF4500 I'd suggest the WxWorx box is not required as you already have Wx from the 696, but I don't know if the WxWorx box gives you more detail than the 696.
