Do I need to connect EFIS 2 Rx and Tx to the 696? What data are you sending to the 696? I am planning on connecting the G430 serial 1 Tx to the 696 so that the 430 flight plan will show on the 696. Will doing this, along with EFIS 2 Tx to the 696, be OK?

You should only connect the 696 or any other device to one of the screens, all the data is sent on the Ethernet to the other screen.

What data are you sending to the 696? We do not send any data to the 396, 496, or 696. You should not connect the EFIS TXD line to it.

No, on any serial line you can only have one TX, you can have multiple RX.

To piggyback this thread. I'm having trouble getting my HSI to show up. I have a 696 wired to serial 3 (just the blue wire to the Serial #3 RXD) and a 300XL to serial 1 (Stein built the harness that connects the AFS3500 to the GNC300XL). I have everything wired and the 696 is configured to push NMEA (normal speed) and the ports have been configured via the calibration mode. Can't get either to display, what am I missing???

Update: this morning I got the CDI to display the 696 by setting the serial #3 to NMEA 4800 vs what the manual says to set 'NMEA/AVTN.' Still no luck on the 300XL, but right now it's not picking up enough satellites in the garage so I'll try it again later. Setting Serial #1 (300XL) to SL-30 didn't work yesterday when it was getting a signal.

By the way, I love my 3500 - it is sweet.

You mentioned the CDI is displaying from the GPS-696 but then in the paragraph below you say it is not. What is it that is not displaying on the EFIS?

Sorry for the confusing post. I'll fix it for historical purposes. As it stands now - the GNC300XL that is connected via Stein built harness isn't displaying on the AFS. Do I use SL30 as the selection for the serial port is there another selection I should use?

You would most likely select AVIATION OUT on the GNC-300XL and AVTN/ARNAV on the EFIS.
