A few weeks back, my 3500 didn't start-up as usual, it just "hang" there.
Details in this tread: http://www.advanced-flight-systems.com/Forum2/showthread.php?208-Strange3500-EFIS-screen-picture-after-power-up.

On the VAF-forum, there's a discussion going on regarding bad quality on differnet SD-cards:
http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?t=64185

For both the last updates for my 3500, I used Kingston SD-card.
Maybe the start-up problem was due to this card?

What are you guys at AFS use for card-brand? Sandisk maybe?
Maybe it's worthwhile to re-update the software in the 3500 using another brand of SD-card?

Thanks.

Yes, it is absolutely possible for a non-start situation. We ONLY use SanDisk brand 2GB SD Cards. As you read on the VAF forums, SD Cards are not all alike. Every manufacture has something slightly different about their cards. While many other cards work with our system....we know with 100% confidence that SanDisk cards work the best.

Thanks for the reply Trevor. I'll re-update the 3500 with a 2GB SanDisk card then and see if that will eliminate future "hung-starts".

Hi.

Just an update to the tread above: I've had no more "hung-starts" on the 3500 since I re-updated my 3500 with a SanDisk 2GB SD card.
Therefore it seems to me like the problem is solved.
Thanks for the support AFS!

Also; it was nice seeing you all at S&F this year! You have a VERY nice product-line and it's good to see that you are keeping up the support.
See you all next year at S&F.

Best regards Alf Olav

As I am getting closer to booting my 5600 and 5500 soon, I stopped by Best Buy today and they don't even carry a 2GB SD card anymore. I had remembered reading this thread sometimes back and didn't get one. Will a 4 GB ScanDisk card work? Also will I need 2 of them one for each unit? The 5600 is an EE and the 5500 will just be a MFD. Same question about the memory stick for the back of the units.

The AF-5000 series should work with most SD cards, you only need the SD card for transferring data. You should not leave the SD card in the AF-5000 EFIS display.
