Is the Dynon 100409-000 oil temperature sensor a suitable replacement for the AFS 40405 on my IO-320D1A and AFS5400 / SV-EMS?

Yes both part numbers reference literally the same Datcon manufactured probe. You could also get the Dynon 100409-001 which is native 5/8-18 UNF thread, and then chuck the 1/8-27 NPT to 5/8-18 UNF adapter.

But the bigger question is why do you think you need a replacement probe? These sensors don't really fail. If you're getting high or erratic oil temp readings, you probably have a bad engine ground.

Yes, thanks…so I’ve read here. I’m troubleshooting non-fluctuating, but low, oil temps, and trying to avoid pulling the vernatherm (awkward location). More than likely the issue is an efficient cooling system. That was probably not a problem where the plane was built (Atlanta) but running a tad on the cool side here in Minnesota.
