Is anyone using one of the alternative mapping vendors (Boeing Foreflight or PocketFMS)? If so, how do you like it? What charts are you using? App plates, sectional, low alt.?

I am using PFMS since 2011. Based in Europe and using PFMS on my Ipad then, it was the obvious choice. However, things have changed. The PC program is substituted by EasyVFR, and PFMS is now orphaned. You can still start the program up on your pc emulating W7, and download the current dataset, but for how long remains uncertain.

I use the charts on my 4500's as a backup to my ipad, loaded with Skydemon, which is by far superior to PFMS. My flying is VFR-only, low altitudes as we fly in Europe.

Apart from exchanging an oil pressure transducer, the AFS's are still rock solid, including the backup batteries, I never had any inflight issue.

The AF-3/4000s can use Jeppesen or PocketFMS for international map data availability.

There is currently no international data providers generating plates or charts for the AF-3/4000s. Also there are very few users of the USA plate / chart data for this generation.

If this is something you would like to have its time to consider upgrading to an AF-5000 series display.
