I have an EarthX battery in an RV-6 with dual 5600s and want to connect the battery monitoring wire to the EFIS. My questions, if it's possible, which pin do we use, how does the 5600 respond when it gets the 12v signal, and how do we program the settings to know that input is the battery monitor.
Thank you,
Buster

EarthX has a monitor function with a dedicated lead that is intended to go to an annunciator lamp or LED. I don't recall the voltage, but it isn't 12v. I have two of them in my RV-10. Both monitor leads are run to an input pin on the EFIS. There are three of these input ports on each screen (if you have more than one). You can configure the text message that appears on the screen and whether the alert is triggered by going high or low.

Thanks. You're correct, it's not 12v. It simply goes to ground. Rob sent the instructions to get this connected and on the EFIS. I can share them if anyone wants them. I'm not the builder, and the manuals I have don't address this, so I'm thankful for a company with fantastic customer support!

I had talked with Rob about this a while back. I asked if you guys could incorporate the EarthX battery monitoring wire into one of the inputs, and then based on the bus voltage and the "blinking" of the monitoring wire, have the AFS 5600 display the battery fault and required action. This would be much easier that trying to look up the "decoder" page in the EarthX manual. Rob said that it would be relatively easy to incorporate into the software. Has there been any progress on this lately? Thanks!!

Thanks for the input, this has been added to our feature request list. As with all features the more interest in the feature the more quickly it will be implemented. So if you are interested reply with a quick vote.

Hi Shawn,
I'm not sure if we've been getting enough "votes" to bring this more or less to the "top of the list" of things you guys do (I'm sure you have a lot on your plate). However, about a week ago I got an EarthX warning (I have the EarthX fault wire tied into one of the inputs on my 5600). It was due to the battery getting too warm (yes, it's hot here in Houston already). I'll be adding a "blast tube" and protective cover to the EarthX to help out with the heat issue but I was thinking it would be nice to have the "Decoder" up and running. Any progress on this front? Thanks!!
Jeff

Please send the instructions to me at speedy11 at aol dot com.

All you need to do is connect the wire from the earthX battery to a spare EFIS digital input.

Looks like this thread has gone silent. I too would be interested in this EarthX monitoring feature. Has any progress been made?
Can you be more specific on how to utilize a "spare EFIS digital input"? (AFS 5600T with ACM)

Connect the Fault Monitoring wire (black wire out side of battery) to one of the inputs of the Aircraft Rear Connector INPUT-PFD-1 through INPUT-MFD-3.

Setup is done within the Inputs page of Instrument Configuration.

Shawn,
If the battery is giving a "flashing light" input to the EFIS, how is it handled? Would I see a flashing warning on the screen? Curious if a decoder was programmed in.

The EFIS will show the alert bar item at the same frequency as page 4 (pdf page 6). The decoder hasn't made it to the top of the list. The main thing to remember is if the warning comes on and you hear "CHECK VOLTAGE" then as they say, "shutoff the charging system immediately".

Hey Shawn,
I had my first flashing EarthX error today, and realized when you "ACK" the alert it is really just acknowledging that flash, so the alert tone just keeps repeating and there is no way to stop it which drove me crazy in flight. It makes handling the issue, troubleshooting, and communicating on the radio very difficult.
