Hello,

We have an AFS 5800T in an RV10. We are experiencing an issue with the AHRS. We were flying today and began receiving messages concerning the AHRS being offline, specifically a big red box saying "AHRS OFFLINE" ... I have attached a screenshot of the screen during the issue. I apologize for it being blurry, it was a bit bumpy out there today.

Basically, the issue surfaced just after we had disengaged the integrated Advanced autopilot that was flying a coupled (GTN 650) Nav/VPTH route. The message would appear on the screen for 3-5 seconds (X-ing out all of the instruments) and then everything would come back online for about 10 seconds. Then the cycle would repeat. This went on for about 10 minutes. We stopped seeing the issue about 5 minutes before landing. However, upon taxiing back to the hangar, the issue and cycle began to occur again, all the way until shutdown.

The system and airplane have approx. 100 hours. We also have an AFS 4500 and GRT Mini-X.

We do fly the airplane IFR and in IMC, so this issue is a bit disconcerting, even though we do have more than adequate backup. What could be causing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Using SET -> Hold CAL -> SET into Admin Settings will let you see what type of AHRS Module Config you have. If this is set to HW:INT then look it looks for a Serial Port to contain a valid AHRS module, XBOW or 72010 AF-AHRS.

What type of AHRS does your plane have?
Are you running the latest software?
Did the AF-4500 show the same error?

When we go to the Admin Settings, the AHRS Module Config is HW:OFF NET:RXD

In the Instrument Calibration screen we see that we have an SV-ADAHRS-200, version 13.1.B4.3319, in a status READY state

We are running version 12.03.03-MV16 of the system software

The error is NOT showing up on the screen for the 4500 Deck.

Change the AF-5000 to AHRS Module Config: HW:AF-SV NET:TXD. This will allow the EFIS to read the AHRS data from the AF-SV Network and Transmit the data out the network to other displays.

Shawn,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I'm assuming with this advice that you believe this will stop the off-line issue? Also, if the data is transmitted to other devices, namely the 4500, will that cause a loss of redundancy for the 4500 internal AHARS?

Thanks!
Russ

Yes this is the correct setting for your setup. You will also gain ADAHRS redundancy in your 4500.
