I have the 3400 without the synthetic vision so i assume it is just a 3400.

Flying a Glasair Sportsman

I also do not have moving map.

I am looking for the most basic reliable 2 axis autopilot that does not necessarily have to be slaved to a GPS as i have stated i do not have moving map.

Any advice

PS I do have a Garmin 296 on board

You would need to install our AF-Pilot and an ARINC module.

AF-Pilot $2500
AF-ARINC $500

So I take it that I need the ARINC module.
I am looking at the Vizion 385 from Trutrak which needs the ARINC

If you want it to follow the EFIS heading and Altitude bugs you will need an ARINC. If you want to just install a stand alone Vision you do not need an ARINC.

Fitting a Trio Pro Pilot as a stand alone:)

The problem with the Trio is that their servos do not use what has become the industry standard for servo mounting and figuring out the brackets can be difficult.

If you familiar with a bit of sheet metal work mounting the brackets onto the tubing is a doddle.
I must say I really am impressed with the Trio Gold Servos and AP
Really classy Autopilot
